Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. We believe in transparency — no surprises.

Next Arc Studio ("we", "us", or "our") operates the GlucoWise mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account information (email, display name)
  • Meal logs and food entries, including meal notes and descriptions you type or dictate (as text)
  • Blood glucose readings (entered manually or synced from Apple Health)
  • Meal photos (stored securely in cloud storage)
  • App usage preferences and settings

All data you provide is entered voluntarily. Health data is only read from Apple Health (HealthKit) if you grant the App permission, and you can turn this off at any time in your device's Health settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide core app functionality (meal tracking, scoring, insights)
  • Sync your data across your devices
  • Generate personalized dietary insights and recommendations
  • Process AI-powered meal photo analysis
  • Manage your account and subscription

3. AI-Powered Features and Third-Party AI Processing

GlucoWise offers optional AI-powered features: meal photo analysis, analysis of meals you describe in words, nutrition-label photo reading, smart food swaps, and meal tips and suggestions. To provide these features, the App sends certain data to a third-party AI service. This only happens after you give your consent by tapping Allow on the in-app AI data sharing screen.

Who receives the data

Requests are sent to OpenRouter, Inc. (openrouter.ai), an AI routing service, which processes them using Google's Gemini models. Google acts as the AI model provider.

What data is sent

  • The meal photo or nutrition-label photo you take
  • Meal descriptions, notes and answers you type or dictate about a meal (sent as text only; audio is never sent)
  • Food names and nutrition values from your logs, including recently logged food names
  • Your stated blood-sugar goal, dietary preferences, and primary cuisine preference

We only send the minimum data needed for the feature to work.

What is never sent

We do not send your name, email address, account ID, glucose readings, A1C, medications, or any Apple Health (HealthKit) data to the AI provider.

How the data is used

The data is used only to identify foods, estimate nutrients, and generate meal tips and food swaps for you. It is not used for advertising.

Your choices

You can decline AI data sharing. If you do, AI features stay off, and manual logging and barcode/database search continue to work. You can withdraw your consent at any time in the App under Settings > Preferences > AI Data Sharing.

Protection by the AI providers

OpenRouter and Google process this data under their own privacy terms, which provide protection for user data consistent with this policy. You can read them here: OpenRouter Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy.

Voice dictation

You can dictate meal notes and descriptions instead of typing them. The microphone is used only while you are dictating, after you grant microphone and speech recognition permission. Your speech is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition, which the App requires to run on your device. The App does not record or keep audio and never sends audio to us or to the AI provider; only the resulting text is saved with your meal, and it is sent to the AI provider only as described above.

4. Data Storage and Sync

Your data is synced to secure cloud servers so you can access it across devices. Meal photos are uploaded for AI analysis and associated with your account.

Clerk — Authentication and account management
RevenueCat — Subscription and purchase management
Cloudflare R2 — Secure photo storage
OpenRouter, Inc. (with Google Gemini models) — AI-powered meal photo analysis, analysis of meals you describe, nutrition-label reading, food swaps and meal tips, only after you allow AI data sharing in the app (see "AI-Powered Features and Third-Party AI Processing" above)
PostHog — Product analytics (app usage events tied to a pseudonymous account ID; no email, name, or health values)
Sentry — Crash and performance diagnostics (no user identity attached)
USDA FoodData Central — Nutrition data lookups using food names and barcodes (no personal data is sent)
Apple HealthKit — Optional, read-only access to health data on your device, only when you enable it. HealthKit data is never sent to AI providers or used for advertising

6. Data Sharing and Sale

We share data only with the services listed above, solely for operating the App.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained while your account is active. Delete your account via Settings > Account > Delete Account. All data is permanently removed.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security: HTTPS/TLS, secure authentication, and access controls.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Health Disclaimer

⚕️GlucoWise is a wellness tracker, not a medical device.

It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Scores and insights are informational only. Consult a healthcare provider.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date will be revised accordingly.
